A wiki is a web site with an "Edit Page" feature. Authorized users can create, modify and link wiki pages from within their web browser. Multiple persons can work together to make their wiki. Each wiki tracks changes by retaining old versions of each wiki page.
PBwiki is one of those wiki hosts. A wiki host solves the problem of how to create a new wiki and where to keep the wiki. The original concept of PBwiki was to make a new wiki as fast as making a peanut butter sandwich! The users of today have mostly forgotten this concept, but it explains both the PBwiki name and the sandwich logo. PB are the initials for Peanut Butter.
Many wiki on this host, though mostly the older ones, featured the picture of the Peanut Butter sandwich at http://pbwiki.com/sandwch2.jpg - but that is now a broken link.
PBwiki 1.0 and PBwiki 2.0
And if making a new wiki was slower than making a peanut butter sandwich, then Kernigh's Personal Wiki would not exist. This wiki began to exist at December 2005, when PBwiki was relatively new, and upgrades from free wiki to premium wiki were inexpensive. Back then, there was no my.pbwiki.com and no Point-and-Click Editor. PBwiki gradually added hacks like those to create the PBwiki 1.0 of today.
This wiki moved from PBwiki 1.0 to PBwiki 2.0 at 29 January 2009. The new 2.0 version is a redesign, built around an enhanced Point-and-Click Editor, that provides features like folders and page-level access controls. The migration from 1.0 to 2.0 changed the appearance and formatting of this site.
PBwiki 1.0 was the only version with the classic editor, a text editor with the old "WikiStyle" markup.

Clusty Cloud
From http://pbwiki.com we know that PBwiki hosts "business", "education" and "personal" wiki; but if you want to know what PBwiki actually hosts, then explore the Clusty Cloud. At first at seems that PBwiki is so diverse that not much is common between the wikis. However, examination of particular clusters reveals that PBwiki is so large that many wikis have similar topics.
The cloud appears only in browsers that have sufficient JavaScript support.

In the past, this page was a convenient place to drop PbWiki-related links. Back in the PBwiki 1.0 era, these links pointed to the most useful sources of information, but now these links are old and mostly obsolete.
- http://yummy.pbwiki.com was the original "official wiki of PBwiki". It was the place to learn about WikiStyle, and the source of news for new and upcoming features. Today this wiki redirects elsewhere.
- http://forums.pbwiki.com were the official forums, an the place for help and bug reports. Today it is only an archive.
- http://blog.pbwiki.com is the official blog, "The Daily Peanut". This replaced the "new features" section of yummy. The blog still runs today, and it was the place that announced PBwiki 2.0.
- http://pbwikicentral.pbwiki.com provides "Public Wikis Categorised". This was the original directory of public PBwikis! It is still up.
- http://pbwikifanclub.pbwiki.com is the result of users who met on the forums and wanted to share their admiration of PBwiki. They formed a fan club which gave demonstrations and scripts!!!
- http://widget.pbwiki.com is the home of the Widget Library, a collection of useful JavaScript functions for PBwiki. It works with PBwiki 1.0 and there are plans to support 2.0. (This wiki does not use the Widget Library yet.)

And there was also http://center.pbwiki.com - the "center" of PBwiki, though it has nothing of use. Maybe someone will eventually do something useful with it.
